Library of Congress August 3, 2007

The Library of Congress today announced eight partnerships as part of its new Preserving Creative America initiative to address the long-term preservation of creative content in digital form including digital photographs, cartoons, motion pictures, sound recordings and even video games.

British Broadcasting Corporation

The BBC has announced its new open archive making archive news reports available to the UK Public to download and use for free in its own creative works. Footage includes coverage of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Beijing’s Tiananmen Square protest, and Nelson Mandela’s release.   
The footage can be viewed, downloaded, edited and mixed by UK residents - so long as it’s for non-commercial programming.  The clips are available in QuickTime, Windows Media, MPEG1 and MP3 formats at bbc.co.uk/opennewsarchive

CBC Archives

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation now features thousands of radio and television clips from the archives of the CBC at achives.cbc.ca

The entire 3500 hour British Pathe Film Archive which covers news, sport, social history and entertainment from 1896 to 1970 is sold on line and can now be previewed at britishpathe.com
